While the International School Augsburg is readily accessible from the Stuttgart-Munich Autobahn 8, ISA?s campus is in Gersthofen. This pleasant little town lies just outside of the historical city of Augsburg, which is Bavaria?s third largest metropolis, some 50 minutes northwest of Munich.
International School Augsburg has grown rapidly. Having opened in September 2005 with just 65 students, it now boasts an enrolment of over 300.
ISA offers full-day English-language education to children from Augsburg?s growing international community along with local German students. The school is accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
School hours for the Early Learning Centre (ELC) run from 9:00 am to 3:15 pm on Monday through Thursday and from 9:00 am to 1:45 pm on Fridays. Grades 1 ? 5 run from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm on Monday through Thursday and from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on Fridays. From Grade 6 upwards the hours are from 8:50 am to 3:30 pm on Monday through Thursday and from 8:50 am to 2:00 pm on Fridays. Extracurricular offerings take place between 3:40 pm and 4:40 pm most days of the week.
ISA is truly international. Its students and their families represent 25 nationalities while the highly qualified teachers come from 20 different countries. All students learn German. There is a strong programme for English language learners. Mother tongue lessons are available for a range of languages.
The Lower School (ELC to grade 5) is authorized to teach the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programmme (PYP) and the High School offers the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in grade 10 and the IB Diploma in grade 12. The first IB Diploma graduating class was celebrated in the summer 2012. Many of the alumni are now studying at universities in Germany and abroad.
Due to its commitment to small classes (average class size is 15) the school provides very well for individual needs. ISA strongly encourages and supports all Upper School students possessing the necessary aptitude and motivation, to complete the requirements of the IB Diploma Programme in grades 11-12. This challenging course is held in high esteem by universities all over the world.
While ISA takes academics very seriously, it is equally committed to drama, art, music and physical education. There is a strong sports programme and a growing school orchestra. The in-school instrumental program is unique among international schools.
The school facility at International School Augsburg is exceptional. The main building is bright and spacious with large classrooms. It houses the spacious library/media centre, state of the art science laboratories, music, drama and art rooms. All teaching spaces are excellently resourced with technology to support learning. A recently added wing houses additional classrooms, the cafeteria and a sports hall.
Visitors to ISA regularly comment on its exceptionally friendly atmosphere, the respectful and confident attitude of the students and the calm, focused learning environment. This was highly commended by the recent accreditation visit.
