For the research project i-share on the Sharing Economy funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and led by Professor Johanna Mair, the Hertie School of Governance is looking to hire a Postdoctoral Researcher who is active in the research areas Organizational Sociology, Organizational Theory or Strategic Management.

The Hertie School of Governance is an international teaching and research centre of excellence that prepares students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society. An internationally-recruited faculty, interdisciplinary in outlook, research, and teaching, offers analytically-challenging and practice-oriented courses on governance, policy analysis, management, and leadership. For a research project on the Sharing Economy funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and led by Professor Johanna Mair we are looking to hire a Postdoctoral Researcher who is active in the research areas Organizational Sociology, Organizational Theory or Strategic Management.

The position is part-time (75%) and directly relates to I-Share - a project on the Sharing Economy funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (see www.i-share-economy.org for further details). In collaboration with the Universities of Mannheim, Göttingen and Augsburg, the project systematically takes stock of the Sharing Economy in Germany, compares different business models, analyzes the positive and negative effects, and estimates the current and potential future contributions to society. The position offers the opportunity to work in close collaboration with teams of the partner universities and develop and conduct a complementary research project on the Sharing Economy. The position is associated with the Organizations, Management and Leadership Cluster at Hertie which considers new governance structures, organizational forms, management demands faced by organizations across sectors.

Your Tasks will include:
  • Coordinating and contributing to a funded research project that involves several leading German Universities;
  • Taking care of administrative management of research project activities and events;
  • Developing and executing a signature research agenda on the Sharing Economy for the Hertie School team in alignment with the overall project;
  • Leading efforts on literature review, data collection, data analysis and data presentation;
  • Preparing manuscripts for publication in leading journals;
  • Seeding future research projects on the Sharing Economy.

Your Profile:
  • Excellent PhD in the social sciences (organizational sociology, economic sociology, business or public management, political science, or other social sciences);
  • Ability to push forward a research agenda that contributes to the project in a substantive way;
  • Excellent analytical skills and experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods;
  • Excellent communication and organization skills;
  • Experience or interest in proposal writing;
  • Fluent in English (working language at the Hertie School) and German.

Start date can be as early as November 1st, 2015 and funding is available for the duration of the project (until the end of April 2018). The salary is equivalent to a 75% position according to the tariff for post-doctoral researchers in Berlin (TV-L 14).
